The following men were appointed Justices of the Peace for Anson Co: Charles Robinson, James Mackilwean, Joseph White, Edmund Cartledge, William Phillips, Samuel Davis, Thomas Smith, James Cathey, John Holmes, Alexander Osborne, Walter Carruth, John Brevard and John Brandon.
Joseph White was appointed the first Sheriff of Anson County. Joseph White was listed as a captain of the Brown Creek Company in 1770 and his son Joseph Jr. was an ensign.
Joseph Phillips was appointed constable for George Sprinkle. Rowan Co Minutes of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, Bk III, page 15.
Joel Phillips signed a petition by the inhabitants of Anson Co saying that they spent of necessity much gold and silver which found its way to Virginia and South Carolina from the province of North Carolina and asking that a court at Campbellton be established for Anson, Orange and Cumberland Counties.

25 and 26 Aug 1775 Benjamin Cleveland was elected Chairman of the Surry County Committee of Safety on August 25, 1775. The Surry County Committee of Safety adopted the following resolution:

Benjamin Phillips, James Phillips and Reuben Phillips signed a petition by the inhabitants of Anson Co requesting a division of Anson Co with the PeeDee River as the dividing line. The petition states that the court house now stands in ten or twelve miles of South Carolina and is extremely inconvenient.
Ordered that Sheriff summons Henry Kee to next court concerning his holding and detaining Henry Phillips and ______ Phillips, orphans now in his possession.
Robert Lanier, Charles NcAnnally, Samuel Mosby, Jos. Phillips and Charles Gordon are bound to Gov. Richard Caswell for £2000 as Robert Lanier has been appointed surveyor for Surry Co. Wit: Jo. Williams. Surry County Book 1, Pg 96.
