The following men were appointed Justices of the Peace for Anson Co: Charles Robinson, James Mackilwean, Joseph White, Edmund Cartledge, William Phillips, Samuel Davis, Thomas Smith, James Cathey, John Holmes, Alexander Osborne, Walter Carruth, John Brevard and John Brandon.

(According to the book “Carolina Cradle” by Robert Ramsey, Joseph White removed to North Carolina in 1745 or 1746 and settled on the Pee Dee River south of the Granville line. Together with Edmund Cartledge and William Phillips he was a key figure in the development of the Pee Dee settlement. From the Raleigh Register and North Carolina State Gazette 2 Nov 1808: “Died at his seat in Anson County, Mr. Joseph White at the extreme age of 112 years.”)
