(This John Phillips died in Surry County in 1827, naming his wife Colley and daughters Agnes and Peggy who were under the age of ten. The witnesses to his will were John Hunter, Sr, John Hunter Jr, and John Cornelius. Colley Tate born ca. 1803 was the putative daughter of Owen Dunn Tate and Elizabeth Hunter. John may have been the son of Abraham Phillips and Sarah Caroline Ridings and the twin brother of William Phillips, b. 4 Feb 1804. Agnes Phillips, age 24, appears in the household of Owen D. Tate on the 1850 census in Forsyth County.)
