From 1850 Census Records in Johnson County, TN

Possible that their mother was a Nancy Phillips who was 45 in the 1850 Census and had an son, Ely, living in her household. Ely was listed as 12 years old. John Phillips was living with his future bride, Rachel Arrendell's family. There was also a Sarah Phillips in the 1850 Census living with a Mary Card and her husband. Mary might have been a Phillips and the sister of Sarah. This is all pure speculation. It appears as if the father and husband of Nancy had died and the older children were living with other families.
