John Phillips, d. 1799, Will was probated in November court in 1799 in Moore Co., NC. Not much is known about where this John Phillips came from, but it is believed he was in Cumberland Co. before it was divided and the land he owned became Moore Co., NC. Speculation and undocumented as of right now, states he received a Royal Land Grant from King George III before 1755. The land was north of Deep River in Moore Co., between(south) what was later to be the county line of Chatham. John Phillips was listed on an early Tax List dated 1755 in Moore County. Moore was created in 1754 from Cumberland Co.

m. Patience ?(his wife Patience was mentioned in his Will). Patience is not the proven mother of all of John Phillips's children, but for now, will speculate that she was.

  2. Lewis b. 26 Nov 1765 (Sr.) m. Charity Dickerson of Chatham Co., NC- see Lewis Phillips, Jr. Bible
  3. John - last known location is IL, as stated in Ruany's letter of 1838.
  4. Ruany b. circa 1770 d. before 1850. ( Ruany or Rainy is probably slang for Ruanna ), believed that she m. a Dickerson, brother of Charity above.

Notes

Ruany husband might have been the William Dickerson who was a witness to John Phillips's Will. Letter dated 26 Sept 1838, Laurel Hill, TN to her brother Lewis, mentions, brothers John and Mark. Listed in the 1840 Census in Madison Co., TN. There is a large amount of Dickersons in Madison Co., TN in the 1850 Census, with many being b. in NC.
