(According to LDS records, this Mordecai Phillips was born 17 Sep 1793 at Pilots Mountain in Surry County. Mordecai was probably the son of John and Elizabeth Phillips and the grandson of Bennett and Elizabeth Phillips. Jane was the daughter of John Gordon and Barzilla Martin. Mordecai and Jane appear to have moved to Cass County, MO, by 1839, along with his cousin John T. Phillips.)
